In 1988, I said goodbye to Sadie due to health issues—a heartbreaking moment that opened the door to new breeds and new beginnings.

I explored several breeds, including Bloodhounds and Springer Spaniels, but it was in 1990 that I met my first Collie, Cinders, thanks to a kind referral from mentor and friend, Nick Brown.

The Early Years

Our journey to found Clearvu began at young age of 15, when I started showing horses in Huntseat. While I loved it, the demands of city life eventually made it difficult to continue.

At 17, I got my first dog, Sadie (a Rottweiler), and discovered my passion for canine training. Together, Sadie and I earned our AKC obedience titles (CD and CDX), laying the foundation for a lifelong dedication to dogs.

By 1980, I was actively involved in AKC conformation shows. In 1984, I began teaching obedience classes for others pursuing their own companion dog titles, and became a regular presence in the Mid-Hudson Valley Kennel Club and local training communities.

A New Chapter Begins

Our History

The Birth of Clearvu

Gina, another early collie, marked the beginning of my breeding program. After her first litter, in 1993, the Clearvu Kennel name was officially founded.

Inspired by the dedication of HiVu Kennels, I chose the name Clearvu while standing at my mountaintop home, gazing at a limitless horizon.

That clear view symbolized our kennel's vision: producing healthy, beautiful Collies with stable temperaments and true-to-standard structure.

A Pause, Then A Return

In 2002, with the arrival of my daughter Joy (Hi! I’m the one editing this), I had to take a break from breeding due to her health issues. This led to a seven-year hiatus for Clearvu (Sorry about that—also, I’m fine now!).

By 2009, as our older collie boy’s health declined due to age, I began considering another breed. Around that time, I saw a poster advertising golden retriever puppies. After calling, we found out one puppy was left. We met that puppy, fell in love, and brought Sandy home. She was with us for 12 wonderful years.

The Next Generation

In 2011, we welcomed Piper—Lisara N Clearvu’s Charmed—who became the cornerstone of our current Collie line. Tracing back to our original foundation bitch, Cinders, Piper gave us a rare opportunity to preserve and build upon our earliest genetics.

Piper was the mother of Gemma and Trevor, as well as Bella, who carries her legacy forward today. Our program now includes beloved bloodlines from Lisara and Tedjoi, with selective additions from Travler and SugarnSpice to enhance structure, health, and type.

Clearvu Today

In 2020, Clearvu Kennel relocated from New York to the scenic hills of Virginia. Here, our dogs thrive in a peaceful environment with plenty of room to grow, play, and train.

Today, we are proud to produce Collies that excel as therapy dogs, service animals, and loyal family companions. Each breeding is planned with care, with an unwavering commitment to the AKC breed standard, genetic health, and temperament.

Looking Ahead

As the next generation of Clearvu, I (Joy) am honored to continue this legacy. I currently manage all day-to-day operations and care for our dogs, with full dedication to maintaining the high standards our kennel was built on.

I am excited to carry Clearvu forward in preserving the heart of our past while shaping the future.
